Revolutionising temporary bulk storage conveying.

F.A. Miller & Son have designed a complete conveying system which is revolutionising the use of temporary grain storage in Australia.

During the annual grain harvest throughout Australia the sudden influx of millions of tonnes of grain has necessitated that temporary storage facilities be developed in order to cope with the receival of these quantities.  One of the most popular methods of temporary grain storage is "bunkering", where grain is stored in large piles around 30m wide and up to several hundred metres long on a specially prepared base.  F.A. Miller & Son have developed a "Drive-Over Hopper Stacker" (DOHS) system which is used to both fill and empty these bunkers at rates of up to 350 tonnes per hour.

Road transport varying in size from small trucks and trailers to Road Trains empty onto the Drive Over Hopper.  A small transfer conveyor then empties the hopper contents into the large Stacker, which in turn piles the grain in the bunker.  All operations are hydraulically controlled, allowing one man alone to operate the total system

In excess of 60 machines are now in operation in Australia, with modified versions working overseas.  One of the outstanding features of this system is the mobility it offers of capital equipment.  Both the Drive Over Hopper and Stacker can be disassembled for road transportation to another site within hours.  This enables organisations to gain benefit from their investment at several locations during a harvest.  Many sites are also now using this equipment to fill shed storage through portholes in the shed roof.
